You can make an earnest plea to the gods, and as it is said, “every sincere wish will come true”.

But even if you are not a believer, this temple complex in the heart of urban Kowloon is still well worth a visit.

Covering 18,000 square meters and located in a tranquil natural setting remote from the nearby housing estates and the bustle of their streets, the temple is, apart from being an important religious centre, a scenic attraction full of beautifully ornamented traditional buildings.

It commemorates the famous monk of yore Wong Tai Sin (also known as Huang Chu-ping), who was born around AD 328 and became a deity at Heng Shan (Red Pine Hill) in his later life.

In 1915, a Taoist priest, Liang Ren-an, brought a sacred portrait of Wong Tai Sin from Guangdong in Southern China to Hong Kong. It was only fitting therefore that this magnificent temple be built and dedicated to this honored divinity revered down the ages for his benevolence.

Golden Bauhinia Square (also known as The Expo Promenade) outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Wan Chai waterfront marks the most significant occasion in Hong Kong’s history – the return of the former British colony to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and the establishment of the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong (HKSAR).

The handover took place in the convention centre with President Jiang Zemin and other PRC dignitaries representing China, and Prince Charles present to witness the relinquishment of what had often been described as “the richest jewel in the British Crown”.

The “Forever Blooming Bauhinia” Sculpture (Golden Bauhinia) is a gift from the people of the PRC to mark the widespread joy of the Chinese at the return of the territory to the Motherland after more than 150 years. Other gifts to commemorate the historic occasion were sent by each of China’s provinces, autonomous regions and other territories.

Near the Golden Bauhinia stands the Reunification Monument bearing inscriptions of President Jiang Zemin’s calligraphy. Visit at night time for a stunning view of the neon lit skyline of both Kowloon and Hong Kong.

Avenue of Stars, located along Victoria Harbour Waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, was originally funded by a private group. In 2004, it was rebuilt and open to public. To honor the stars of Hong Kong Film Industry, they demonstrate handprints of individual stars, sculptures, movie history milestones, etc.

If you are curious about what makes Hong Kong the Hollywood of the East, you should come here for a little walk. At this tribute to the professionals who have contributed to the territory’s 100 years history of filmmaking, you will see commemorative plaques, descriptive milestones, kiosks with movie memorabilia, a towering Hong Kong Film Awards statuette, and a life-size statue of the legendary kung-fu action star, Bruce Lee.

Moreover, the location offers incredible panoramic views of the famed Victoria Harbour and the memorable Hong Kong skyline. It is also a good place to watch the spectacular A Symphony of Lights, a nightly multimedia show with added pyrotechnics on special occasions.

Ocean Park, located on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, is one of Hong Kong’s favourite attraction. Actually, with its exciting rides, fine exhibits and educational adventure, Ocean Park has already surpassed Disneyland as the most popular theme park in Hong Kong.

General Information
The ocean Park covers more than 870,000 square metres of land and is comprised of three parts, which are the Lowland, the Headland and Tai Shue Wan. The three parts are connected by a cable car and an outdoor escalator, which is the 2nd longest in HK.

Plan Your Visit

No trip to Ocean Park would be complete without a stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Giant Panda Habitat to see the four giant pandas. The two newest additions, Ying Ying and Le Le joined long-time residents An An and Jia Jia in this world-class panda facility.

The park is also home to a fascinating Sea Jelly Spectacular, featuring more than 1,000 sea jellies of all sizes from all over the world.

The whole family can also enjoy SkyStar at SkyFair, a huge helium-filled balloon measuring 22 metres in diameter which soars more than 100 metres into the sky.

Other popular attractions have included the Ocean Theatre, Abyss Turbo Drop, the Mine Train and new and fun-filled entertainment facilities are introduced from time to time and the Master Development Plan is now underway.

Hong Kong is a place with plenty of night life. However, streets are almost empty from 7am – 8am. Most shops open at or after 9 in the morning, while Cantonese restaurants open at about 6am or even earlier.

The working class usually have breakfast in these Cantonese restaurants in early morning. They enjoy 一盅兩件 (Lit. One bowl with two pieces, meaning a cup of tea with two Dim Sums) and read newspapers before work. Many elderly bring their caged birds here to chat with others. And they can spend a whole morning by doing this. Well, this is the well-known Hong Kong “Morning Tea”.

This tea-drinking culture of Hong Kong residents derives from the mainland tea culture and has its roots in travellers on the ancient Silk Road needing a place to rest. Thus teahouses were established along the roadside.

At first, it was considered inappropriate to combine tea with food, because people believed it would lead to excessive weight gain. People later discovered that tea can aid in digestion, so teahouse owners began adding various snacks. And the habbit later becomes a world’s uniqueness not only in terms of the tea itself, but also in terms of the underlying social and cultural values.
